GOVERNOR BUNI LAUNCHES YOBE EDUCATION TRUST FUND TO REJUVENATE EDUCATION IN THE STATE

Governor Mai Mala Buni has reaffirmed that the goals to enshrine the dividend of democratic good governance can only be optimally achieved through sustainable education development of the society.

He made this statement at the launching of the Yobe State Education Trust Appeal Fundraising (YETFUND) in Abuja.

The governor said, for good governance and democracy to thrive, we need a well-educated and enlightened society. Adding that, even the challenges associated with insecurity are not unconnected with the apparent misconception of educational culture and narrative.

He noted that the key to a sustainable resolution of our developmental challenges is to invest strategically in growing a well-educated and sensitized citizenry.

Governor Buni emphasized that the task of rejuvenating education in the state is far beyond the traditional treasury capacity of the state, hence the need to look elsewhere for support.

   He said,

consequent to this challenge, we decided to approach your good selves, our potential benefactors, through this education fundraising event to seek your support, in cash or kind of endowment seed fund to an estimated value of N25billion.    According to Buni, the fund generated would be channeled towards developing and maintaining a high standard of education

philosophy, education policy, legal, regulatory, and institutional arrangement in the Basic and Secondary Education sub-sector.

   Other areas include: “Eliminate the problem of out-of-school children, maintain the highest standard of enrolment, attendance, and retention with special attention to girls’ education.

“Improvement of the adequacy in quality and quantity of teachers and para-teaching personnel.

“Evolution and maintenance of standard teaching and learning environments among other things”

Governor Buni said, by making education a priority in developmental drive in the state, this act of political will was promptly follow-up by a chain of actions by the government which includes; conveying of education summit, the appointment of the technical committee for the revitalization of education, the conduct of the statewide baseline survey on education, the establishment of education council for the oversight functions, setting up the Yobe education trust fund governed by the independent board of trustees among others to make education more accessible to the citizens.    He disclosed that the government has reconstructed and renovated over 300 schools, established 6 modern schools and 7 mega schools, procured textbooks and laboratory equipment worth 1 Billion naira’s, and supply of class and office furniture worth over 1 billion Naira’s to create a conducive atmosphere for both learning and teaching in schools across the state, in addition to the training and retraining of over 10,000 teachers to improve their teaching methodology to impact knowledge and skills efficiently and effectively.

YOBE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYS 196 HEALTH WORKERS

In an effort to make health care services accessible and affordable to the doorsteps of the people across the state and to boost manpower in the health sector, Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the employment of 196 graduates of the College of Health Science and Technology Nguru.

 This is contained in a press release issued by the Director-General, Press Affairs to Governor Buni, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, and made available to newsmen in Damaturu.

   Governor Buni said, the employment of the 196 graduates of the College, would provide the professional skills needed in the health facilities across the state.

    He urged the beneficiaries to be dedicated to their professional callings and to serve the people with dignity, saying …

      …….”Government has expended so much in training you and has now employed you, you should justify the huge investment made by the government to serve our people diligently and efficiently to add value to our drive for improved healthcare delivery in the state.    He assuredthat government will continue to employ the required personnel for effective and efficient service delivery to boost health care service delivery in the state.

     According to the release, those approved for employment are Pharmacy Technicians, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Dental Surgery Technicians, and Health Information Management specialists adding that

The approval covers 23 Pharmacy Technicians, 60 Medical Laboratory Technicians, 62 Dental Surgery Technicians, and 51 Health Information Management professionals.

GOV. BUNI CHARGES DELEGATION ON VAPP, OTHERS TO PROTECT PEOPLE’S COLLECTIVE INTEREST 

Yobe state governor, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni has charged the state delegation on Child Protection Law (CPL), Violence against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPP), and Justice Sector Reform Law to be good ambassadors and protect the interest of the people of the state.

He gave the charge when the delegation paid him a courtesy visit recently in Abuja.

Governor Buni commended the team for representing the state at the Forum.

The delegation briefed the Governor on the developments on the Child Protection Law, VAPP, and the Justice Sector Reform Law, and solicited his support for the adoption and implementation of the Laws in the state.

The delegation under the leadership of the Speaker Yobe State House of Assembly Hon. Ahmed Lawan Mirwa and the state Chief Judge, Justice kashim Gumna Kaigama, also has Hon. Buba Kalallawa, Commissioners for youths, sports and social development and that of Humanitarian Affairs, Hon.  Goni Bukar and Dr. Garba Iliya respectively, Special Adviser on Religious Affairs Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari, the Chief Imam Yobe Central Mosque, Ustaz Hudu Muhammad, and others as members.

GOV. BUNI MEETS YOBE CRITICAL STAKEHOLDERS ON EDUCATION APPEAL FUND

The Executive Governor of Yobe state, Hon. Mai Mala Buni who is also the Chairman APC caretaker extraordinary convention planning committee has met with the Yobe state critical stakeholders at the Government House Damaturu,, to review and verify the amount realized at the local government education revitalization Appeal fund for onward transfer to the central account.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy His Excellency Hon Idi Barde Gubana, Chairman Education fund raising committee, commended the unity, commitment, patience and understanding of critical stakeholders especially during the state Education revitalization Appeal fund across the 17 local government areas.

He said the moral and financial support received from friends, philanthropist, well- wishers and cooperate organizations across the country, will no doubt improve the standard of education in the state.

According to him, government and people of Yobe state remain grateful to Allah for the peaceful gathering throughout the period of the fund raising.

  The Governor also appreciated the chief launcher Alh. Dahiru Barau Mangal, chairman of the occasion Ambassador Babagana Kingibe amongst other donors for what he described as immeasurable support to the project.

Buni encouraged local government stakeholders to maintain the education fund in their various local governments for the future generations. He enjoined the stakeholders to intensify prayers for peace in the state and for the successful zonal and national APC convention.

GOVERNOR MAI MALA BUNI ASSURES JUDICIOUS USE OF YETFUND

Yobe state governor Hon Mai Mala Buni has assured that the financial supports realized at the launching of Yobe State Education Trust Fund (YETFUND) in Abuja would be judiciously used for the intended purposes to advance education in Yobe state.

The Governor said he was fascinated by the generous moral and financial support the government and people of the state have enjoyed at the launching adding that the huge turnout of well-wishers from across the country to identify with the educational challenges of the state was quite amazing.

He said, “Your presence and generous donations have rekindled a new and stronger hope of brotherhood and unity.

“The moral and financial support received from friends, colleagues, and well-wishers across the country gives us a sense of belonging, saying that “This act of kindness is a clear indication that the government and people of Yobe state were not left on their own to face their problems alone,” he said.

Governor Buni said the major challenge in addressing the problems in the education sector is funding, adding that with these handsome donations government would achieve its set goals and aspirations to reposition education in Yobe state.

The Governor added that the donations will no doubt contribute to improving the standard of education and a prosperous future for the state.

YOBE STATE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS INFORMATION AND CULTURE TO PARTNERPRIMARY HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT BOARD ON ITNs CAMPAIGN

The State Commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs Information and Culture Hon. Mohammed Lami, has assured to carry out mobilization, sensitization ad advocacies for the upcoming Insecticide treated Nets (ITNS)

He gave the assurance when a team of partners in the health sector, led by the state Primary Health management Board, paid him an advocacy visit in his office at the state secretariat Damaturu.

Lamin who was represented the his Permanent Secretary, Alh Ali Usman showed appreciation for the visit, saying the Ministry  will partner the state Primary Healthcare Management Board and other partners to ensure  the success of the program.

The Executive secretary YSPHMB Dr Babagana Kundi Machina represented by DD/DC Umar Kwanda had earlier disclosed that they were on advocacy visit to the Ministry owing to the important role it plays.

He said the ministry in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP), Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Malaria Consortiums (MC), Chemonies and other malaria partners are requesting the support of the ministry as a Crucial Stakeholder in the implementation of (ITNs) mass campaign in Yobe State.

The Exc. Sec. enumerated the following areas that need support and cooperation of the Ministry to include

1-Partnership

2-To creates awareness and promote ITNs use through their various mass media during and after the campaign

3-Support with free phone in program, free TV/Radio health talks programs

4-Free Radio TV jingles slot

5-Reduced the rate for airing of jingles

6-To provide coverage on human angle stories during the NETs campaign process on airing of jingles

7-Provide logistic for their personnel covering the NETs campaign process and

8-To participate in the media parlay.

The National Malaria Elimination programmer (NMEP) in collaboration with partners, Malaria Consortiums; Sub Recipient to the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has commenced the planning for distribution of over 2.2 million Long lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) donated to Yobe State by Global Fund (GF) in a bid to replace the over 2.2 million nets distributed in 2019. This is to provide continued protection the population against the Malaria scourge. The National Malaria Elimination Programe will provide Coordination and oversight. While Malaria Consortium (MC) will support operationalization of the LLIN distribution campaign.

The LLINs distribution is planned to start from 3rd July to 24th August 2022.

YOBE COMMENDS FG FOR BESDA

Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni has applauded the Federal Government for initiating the programme Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA). Represented by the state Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, the Governor made the commendation at the Government House while receiving the Minister for state for Education Mr. Chukuemeka Nwajiuba who paid him a courtesy call.

 He commended the World Bank for providing credit support to strengthen Universal Basic Education (UBE) sector.

The state Governor appreciated the efforts of Federal Government, World Bank and Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for enlisting the state among the 17 States for BESDA.

Governor Mai Mala Buni thanks the visitor for sparing His time despite tight schedule to visit Yobe State for the review BESDA programme.

 Earlier, the Minister for state for Education Hon. Chukuemeka  Nwajiuba emphasized the need for accountability on the implementation of UBEC and BESDA programmes in order to reduce the challenges of out of-school Children across    Nigeria.

He said they were in the state on a review tour of the BESDA programme.

According to him, BESDA programme is designed to support designated Federal and States Government agencies in line with specific objectives of increasing equitable access to education for out of-school children and to improve literacy in focus States by strengthening, accountability for better result throughout the system.

He noted that, BESDA intervention focuses on a States with largest population of out of-school across the country.

AGRIC COMMISSIONER INSPECTS NASARI/JAKUSKO GRACING RESERVES PROJECT

The Commissioner, ministry of Agriculture and natural resources, Dr. Mairo Ahmad Amshi has summoned stakeholders & Contractors meeting at the ongoing project of Livestock development centre Nasari/JAKUSKO grazing reserves. Addressing the meeting Dr Mario urged the contractor to fear Allah in the execution of the contracts

The committee inspected all the sites of the projects prior the commencement of the joint meeting, expressing satisfaction with some of the contractors, who she disclosed has displayed high morale in handling the project.

She urged them to continue in that spirits even without the site engineer at site.

It could be recalled that Yobe state has in November 2021, signed a project of two point five billion naira to curtailed the menaced of herders and farmers clashes in the state

The project which has reached seventy five percent is expected to be completed soon.

YOBE MINISTRY OF WORKS OPENS TENDERS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF STEEL PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE CROSSING AT GASHUA, NGURU AND POSTISKUM TOWNS, MARKET.

The Yobe state Ministry of works has opened bid for the construction of pedestrian crossing at 3 towns of the state.

The Commissioner Engr. Umar Wakil Duddaye represented by permanent secretary Alh. Suleiman Bakura, who chaired the meeting, said six bidders have submitted bids for the project.

Two bidders’ bids for the Gashua market pedestrian bridge namely Mai Musari Investment and Blue Sky Synergy Ltd.

While that of Nguru Market Bridge was bidded by A.L.W Construction Nig. Ltd and Blue Sky Synergy Ltd.

Bidders for the Potiskum market pedestrian bridge included Amurti Investment Ltd. And Sky Synergy Ltd.

All the bidders were present at the time of bids opening and management staff of the ministry,

GOVERNOR BUNI CHARGES PHILANTHROPIES ON SUPPORTING QURANIC COMPETITIONS 

Yobe state Governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni has charged well-meaning Yobeans to encourage the pursuance of Islamic education and proper moral upbringing of children. 

The Governor who urged the Muslim ummah especially well to-do among the people to complement Government efforts in the conduct of the Annual Quranic competition event including offering of prizes to the winners.                        Represented by the Commissioner Ministry of Religious Affairs, Alhaji Mala Musti, the governor was speaking while presenting award to the 2022 winner of the competition, Muhammad Muhammad muratti, from Potiskum Local Government Area.

He then congratulated all the participants urging them to strive hard to imbibe the habit of correctly reciting’s the Holy Quran with the intention of getting multiple rewards there from.

UNICEF SUPPORTS YSPHMB ON MATERNAL, NEONATAL AND CHILD HEALTH PROGRAM IN YOBE STATE                                                

UNICEF has handed over essential medicines worth over US $220,000 to the government of Yobe State, as part of efforts to improve maternal, neonatal and child survival and outcomes in conflict affected communities in north east Nigeria.                                        

UNICEF will also support the implementation of primary healthcare management board with an additional US $300,000.

The Executive secretary Yobe State Primary Health Management Board Dr. Babagana Kundi Machina who received the support from UNICEF on behalf of His Excellency the Executive Governor Hon Mai mala Buni expressed appreciation for the support and partnership, assuring the state will use the equipment judiciously.

While hamdig over the items to the state, the UNICEF Chief of Maiduguri field officer Phuong T. Nguyen said ………as today we are laying the foundation for optimum wellbeing for thousands of children born and yet to be born. With this interventions

 Among the drugs handed over are anti-malarias analgesic, antibiotics and other drugs and equipment.

These medicines will help ensure that new born and children under the age of five receive protection from malaria, Cholera, Diarrhea and other deadly childhood disease.

T.Y DANJUMA FOUNDATION SUPPORTS 8,621 HOUSEHOLDS IN YOBE WITH FOOD ITEMS.

The T Y Danjuma foundation of the former Minister of Defense, retired Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, has donated food items to 8,621 households in Yobe.

The donation which came to Yobe through the Victims Support Fund (VSF) was distributed to beneficiaries in Kukareta community of Damaturu Local Government Area.

In his remarks, the Yobe state Governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni described the gesture as timely.

Buni, represented by Dr. Abubakar Iliya, who is the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, also said the gesture would complement the efforts of the state government in improving the livelihood of the people While handing over the items to the state government the team lead Mrs. Nana Tanko, recalled that following insurgents’ attacks in Geidam LGA and some other parts of Yobe in 2021, the state government had requested support from VSF.

…“We are exceptionally delighted to have received from the Yobe state government, a letter that had requested the assistance of VSF. Especially in the year 2021 when Yobe state government wrote, after the attack in Geidam and other parts of the state,” she said.

 “Following that, we have discovered up to 8,621 affected households in Geidam, Tarmuwa, Damaturu, Gashua and Yunusari LGAs.“We have brought food items that will be shared to these families. Some of the families are internally displaced persons that have moved since last year and had not been able to go back. Therefore, we are here today to give each of them a package which is made up of 50kg bag that contains 15kg of maize grits, 15kg of millet grits. Other items are vegetable oil, two packets of Maggi, 10kg of beans, 15 sachets of tomato paste, 15 sachets each of pepper and onion,” she continued, adding the foods items are expected to last the beneficiaries at least one month or more.

While commending the resilience and effort of the beneficiaries in taking care of their families, the team lead encouraged them to take advantage of the assistance and send their children back to school.

One of the beneficiaries, Malam Ibrahim Modu, expressed appreciation on behalf of other beneficiaries, saying the support would go a long way to alleviate their suffering.

YOBE TRAINS PLWDs ON SKILLS AQUISITION

 The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Abubakar Garba Ilya, has said that there are about 5,531 People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) across the 17 LGAs in Yobe State.

He disclosed this recently at the skill acquisition training for people living with disabilities in Damaturu.

According to the commissioner, the skills acquisition training is intended to serve as a means of economic self-reliance and sufficiency that would hopefully improve and add value to the lives of the participants who are physically challenged, by reducing redundancy and begging.

Dr. Garba Iliya stressed that the workshop is in conformity with Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s programme of rebuilding the state and recovery plans after suffering from the devastating effects of over ten years of insurgency which affected the state badly, adding that the creation of the ministry of humanitarian affairs and disaster management is another effort towards the recovery plans.

The Commissioner said that the state government in its drive to recover and bounce back stronger has also planned intervention activities by leveraging on the resilience and peculiar needs of its citizens especially those with special needs.

Dr. Garba Iliya further called on the participants not to allow their condition deter them from making good use of their natural potentials but see this as a great opportunity to learn a skill.

The training was jointly organized by the ministry of humanitarian affairs and Shukura global services.

YOBE 2021 BATCH `A` CORPS MEMBERS PASS OUT

The passing out Parade of the 2021 batch A National Youth Service Corps has been successfully conducted in Damaturu the Yobe state capital.

Speaking at the occasion, the executive Governor of the state, Hon Mai Mala Buni, ably represented by the Commissioner Ministry of Youth, Sport, Social, and Community Development, Hon. Goni Bukar Lawan, congratulated the corps members on their successful completion of their one-year mandatory service.

He also noted their immense contributions to the growth and developments of the state and the country as a whole.

The Governor also appreciated all corps members of the country, especially this batch, for their laudable contributions to the growth of the Nigerian economy as well as their roles in giving credibility to electoral process.

YSCHMA ENGAGES RELIGIOUS LEADERS ON INFORMAL PROGRAMME IN THE STATE

Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA) has held an engagement meeting with religious leaders in the state. The meeting which took place at the Conference Hall of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Damaturu the Yobe state capital was attended by Imams and other religious leaders from seven local government areas of Yobe East comprising of Damaturu, Gujba, Gulani and Tarmuwa. Others are Bursari, Geidam and Yunusari.

In his keynote address, the Honorable Commissioner for Health and Human Services in the state, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana who was ably represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adamu Tella Zimboh said that

 ……..”Right from the inception of the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, the state government has attached priority to the health sector and so many successes have been achieved”.   This effort according to the Permanent Secretary is to ensure that people of the state have easy access to affordable and quality health care services to also help the state to achieve universal health coverage (UHC) in line with the health policy agenda of Governor Mai Mala Buni.

 In his welcome remarks, the Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr. Babagana Tijjani said that the agency organized the stakeholder’s engagement meeting in order to fast track the incorporation of informal sector into the contributory health scheme.

……..’’As part of preparations to incorporate informal sector into the state’s contributory health scheme, the agency has commenced a strategic stakeholder’s engagement meeting in the state“.

According to the Executive Secretary, the programme will target self-employed groups such as farmers, artisans, marketers, traders, fish sellers and market women groups.

Other group of people to benefit from the informal programme are National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), tricycle riders, cattle breeders, vulcanizes, mechanics, tailoring and fashion design associations as well as Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) among others too numerous to mention.

On his part, the Special Adviser to Yobe State Governor on Religious Affairs, Sheikh Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari stressed the need for all religious leaders in the state to mobilize and encourage their followers to embrace the informal programme so as to help the state achieve universal health coverage in the best interest of the state. Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari further said that a lot of countries in the world have gone far with the informal sector programme and are currently enjoying the scheme which has really helped in improving the health indices of countries who have implemented the contributory health scheme.

Highlights of the event is the presentation of YSCHMA contributory health schemes and implementation by the agency’s Director of Programmes, Dauda Suleiman and interactive session with religious leaders which was presided by the Chief Imam of Yobe Mosque and Islamic Centre, Sheikh Ustaz Hudu Muhammad Yusuf.

NAHCON CERTIFYS YOBE STATE ARRANGEMENT FOR 2022 HAJJ EXERCISE

A Delegation from the National Hajj Commission was recently in Yobe on ax inspection tour and licensing of pilgrims Commission in the state.

 The team led by Alhaji Ahmed Shira, Said the tour was to determine the professionalism, strength, readiness, capacity and ability of the state to organize and conduct yearly Hajj activities and issue them with license to enable them function both officially and legallyAlhaji Ahmed Said NAHCON is satisfied with the Yobe Pilgrim’s Commission’s structure, infrastructure, professionalism, process and all plans made for the conduct as well as official documentation of Hajj exercises.  In his remarks executive chairman Yobe state Pilgrims Commission Alhaji Bukar Kime said state government has been supporting the commission in all its activities and programs, pointing out that the Yobe state government has approved in its 2022 budget allocation, the sum of over   three hundred million Naira for construction of befitting mini Hajj transit camp at the premises of the commission.

According to him Yobe state Pilgrims Commission has continuously been graded as second to none and always receives grading of category A from NAHCON.

STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD PAYS FUGA STUDENTS

 Yobe State Scholarship Board has screened and made Scholarship payment to Yobe indigenes at the Federal University of Gashua FUGA.

 The Executive Secretary of the Board Dr. Kagu has assured that all students of the institute who have applied for the scholarship of their payment within 24 hours after screening.

He urges the students to be cooperative in their screening exercise.

Dr. Kagu also commended the effort of the vice chancellor of the University Prof Maimuma Waziri for giving the positive response to the Board for a speedy conduct of the.

YOBE HIGH COURT CONVICTS AND SENTENCES NUHU SALE TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT

It could be recalled that on the 28th August 2020, Chambers of the Hon. Attorney General of Yobe State Potiskum Branch office, filed a rape case against Nuhu Sale (accused person). When the case was mentioned the accused person pleaded not guilty and the prosecution applied to call its witnesses.  

The investigating officer testified as first witness and told the court that he took the victim to the General Hospital Potiskum, for medical examination.

Subsequently, the victim narrated to the court what actually transpired which was also testified by another witness (name withheld).

The fourth witness also testified interacting with the accused person in the course of which he was asked if he could engage a counsel before his statement is obtained, if he intends to make one. All effort to reach any of his relatives proved abortive.

The accused voluntarily gave his statement (which was tendered through writing witness against him).

On the close of the case the accused testified as first Defendant In his own defense. And he was subjected under cross examination.
