The Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continuously equip and reposition the public service to enhance efficiency and improve service delivery in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
Governor Buni gave the assurance in Damaturu during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed government officials, including the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon. Yerima Lawan Mahmud; the Head of Civil Service, Alh. Abdullahi Musa Shehu; Special Advisers Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim and Yahaya Inuwa Barde; and the Statistician-General of the State, Abdulrahman Malik.
Charging the new Commissioner for Livestock Development, Governor Buni urged him to deploy his wealth of experience to drive the mandate of the newly created ministry.
“I wish to reassure livestock farmers that government will invest heavily in livestock development, including the establishment of veterinary clinics, provision of water, development of fodder banks, and vaccination of livestock against trans-boundary diseases,” the Governor said.
He added that these interventions are aimed at harnessing the state’s vast livestock potential to position Yobe State as Nigeria’s leading livestock production hub.
Addressing the new Head of Civil Service, Alh. Abdullahi Musa Shehu, Governor Buni tasked him with galvanizing the civil service towards higher productivity and improved service delivery.
“You are encouraged to promote and reward hard work without sentiments, enhance teamwork, ensure effective delegation of responsibilities, and champion transparency and due process in the conduct of government business,” he said.
The Governor further emphasized that his administration would continue to prioritize capacity building as a key driver of productivity and effective service delivery. He disclosed that 34 Permanent Secretaries are currently undergoing training at the Public Service Institute in Abuja, while 149 civil servants are attending courses at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, Lagos.
Governor Buni also expressed confidence that the appointments of Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim and Yahaya Inuwa Barde as Special Advisers would strengthen government–electorate relations.
“You are advised to leverage your grassroots connections to project the interests of the people and ensure that government policies and programmes positively impact their lives,” he stated.
On the appointment of the Statistician-General, the Governor explained that the establishment of the State Bureau of Statistics was to provide government with scientifically verifiable data to guide policy formulation, programme implementation, and the efficient use of resources.
Governor Buni concluded by calling on the people of Yobe State to continue to support and pray for the state and the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.
