The North East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) has reaffirmed its commitment to the development, security, and economic revival of the sub-region. The Forum made these resolutions at the end of its 12th meeting held in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The meeting concluded with a communiqué issued and read by the Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. (Dr) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN.
Key Resolutions of the Forum
1. Security and Insurgency
The Governors expressed satisfaction with the appreciable success recorded in the fight against insurgency across the North East. They commended the efforts of security agencies and called for sustained onslaughts to ensure lasting peace and stability.
2. Climate Change and Flood Preparedness
The Forum raised concerns about the growing impact of climate change and the looming threat of floods in the region. It urged the relocation of communities residing in flood-prone areas to safer locations.
The Governors further called on relevant agencies, particularly the North East Development Commission (NEDC), to expedite the reconstruction of roads and bridges destroyed by floods.

4. Regional Trade and Investment
In a bid to revitalize commerce and industrialization in the North East, the Governors resolved to rejuvenate the North East Trade Fair. The fair is scheduled to commence in Maiduguri, Borno State, in December 2025, providing a platform for regional and international trade.
5. Renewable Energy Development
Acknowledging the importance of sustainable energy, the Forum considered the development of a masterplan on solar energy to improve power supply across the states in the region.
6. Education and Human Capital Development
The Governors congratulated the University of Maiduguri on its 50th anniversary, acknowledging the institution’s contributions to academic and national growth. They pledged continued support to strengthen the university’s role as a hub of knowledge and innovation.
