The Yobe State Government has declared Tuesday, 15th July 2025, a work-free day to mourn the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who passed away on Sunday at a hospital in London.
Governor Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, approved the work-free day, urging the people of Yobe State to dedicate the day to prayers for the repose of the late President’s soul.
A Day of Prayers Across Yobe State
Governor Buni called on imams across the state to use the day for special prayers in their mosques, not just for the late president, but also for peace and progress in Nigeria.
“He was a leader who did so much to ensure the return of security to Yobe State and the North East in general. He deserves this special honour from the people of the state,” the Governor said.
The Yobe State Executive Council also held a special prayer session in place of its weekly meeting, which was stepped down in honour of the late former president.
Tribute to a Great Patriot
In his earlier condolence message, Governor Buni described the late President Buhari as a great patriot and disciplinarian, who dedicated most of his life to the unity, security, and development of Nigeria.
“He was a leader with integrity and unlimited passion for the progress of this nation,” Buni noted, praying Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
The Governor extended condolences to:

-
Nigerians in general over what he described as a monumental national loss.
