Federal Roads: Gov. Buni Charges House Committee on FERMA to Fix Dilapidated Roads in Yobe

As the rainy season intensifies, Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, has urged the House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to expedite the rehabilitation of dilapidated federal roads across the state.

Governor Buni made the appeal in Damaturu when the committee, led by its Chairman, Hon. Aderemi Abasi Oseni, paid him a courtesy visit as part of its assessment tour of federal roads in the region.

Bad Roads Pose Security Threat – Gov. Buni

Highlighting the security implications of neglected federal roads, Buni described bad portions of the highways as “a weapon for crime.”

According to him:

“Motorists are forced to slow down on the bad spots of the roads, making them easy prey to criminals. It therefore becomes necessary to fix the roads to improve security across the state.”

The Governor listed the following key federal roads as urgently needing rehabilitation:

  • Bara – Gulani Road

  • Buni – Bara Road

  • Kaliyari – Bayamari Road

  • Geidam – Maine Sorowa Road

Buni commended FERMA’s efforts and expressed confidence that fixing these roads would enhance security, ease transportation, and stimulate economic activities in Yobe State.

Committee Promises Immediate Action

In his response, Hon. Aderemi Abasi Oseni, Chairman of the House Committee on FERMA, assured that the committee had taken note of the critical areas on the federal roads and would work towards their immediate rehabilitation.

He commended Governor Buni for his administration’s investment in the construction of road networks across Yobe State, saying:

“The road infrastructure initiated by your government will no doubt boost economic growth and improve the lives of the people.”

Improving Security and Economy Through Road Infrastructure

The visit by the House Committee signals renewed hope for better road connectivity in Yobe, which is expected to:
Improve security and reduce criminal attacks on highways
Facilitate trade and economic activities
Ease movement of goods and services across the state

Governor Buni’s call underscores his administration’s commitment to security, infrastructure, and economic development for the people of Yobe State.
