In a significant move towards enhancing public communication, the Yobe State government has initiated a three-day training workshop for its information officers. This initiative aligns with global best practices and aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to manage and disseminate information effectively.
The workshop was officially opened by Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was represented by Baba Malam-Wali, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). During his address, Buni emphasized the importance of the training in exposing officers to emerging trends in information management. He expressed optimism that the skills and knowledge gained from the workshop would significantly improve the officers’ capabilities.
“To this end, I have approved the allocation of one smartphone and one laptop for each of the participants,” Governor Buni announced, highlighting the government’s commitment to providing the necessary tools for effective communication.
Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, the state Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, expressed gratitude to the governor for facilitating the event. He underscored the importance of the training in bridging the information gap between the government and the public, stating that effective communication is crucial for fostering transparency and trust.
Malam Ali Yawale, the Director of Information Services in the ministry, also spoke on the critical role of information officers in navigating the digital landscape. He noted that in an age where information is readily available, it is essential for officers to be adept at utilizing various media platforms to engage with the public effectively.
The training features a lineup of eminent resource persons and facilitators, including renowned academics and professionals such as Prof. Danjuma Gambo, Prof. Abdullahi Bashir, Dr. Musa Usman, Dr. Ruqayya Yusuf, and Malam Hamza Idris, Editor-In-Chief of the Daily Trust Newspapers. Their expertise will provide participants with valuable insights into effective communication strategies and the latest trends in information dissemination.
As Yobe State continues to evolve, the government’s investment in the training of its information officers reflects a commitment to fostering a more informed and engaged citizenry. By harnessing the power of media and technology, the state aims to strengthen the bond between the government and its people, ensuring that information flows freely and transparently.
This training workshop is not just a step towards improving communication; it is a vital investment in the future of governance in Yobe State. As the participants embark on this journey of learning, the hope is that they will emerge as effective communicators, ready to bridge the gap between the government and the public, and contribute to a more informed society.
