Governor Mai Mala Buni Presents 2025 “Budget of Economic Consolidation and Poverty Reduction”

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to completing ongoing projects and launching new people-centered initiatives. The governor made this commitment while presenting the 2025 Finance and Appropriation Bill to the Yobe State House of Assembly in Damaturu.

Tagged the “Budget of Economic Consolidation and Poverty Reduction”, the 2025 budget reflects Governor Buni’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy through strategic investments in critical sectors.

Budget Highlights

Governor Buni revealed that the total proposed budget for the 2025 fiscal year amounts to ₦320.811 billion, allocated as follows:

  • Recurrent Expenditure: ₦144.036 billion (44.9%)
  • Capital Expenditure: ₦176.774 billion (55.1%)

The budget focuses on economic growth, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and youth and women empowerment.

Prioritizing Economic Development

The governor emphasized the importance of the economic sector in accelerating Yobe State’s growth. He announced a total allocation of ₦156.931 billion to key ministries and agencies, including:

  • Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources
  • Ministry of Works
  • Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism
  • Ministry of Finance and Economic Development
  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Development
  • Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency
  • Yobe Investment Company Limited

Infrastructure and Road Development

Governor Buni detailed plans to complete 17 ongoing road projects and begin 11 new road projects. Other notable infrastructure projects include:

  • Township roads and drainages in five local government areas.
  • Commencement of the Damaturu flyover construction.
  • Improved water supply with new solar-powered boreholes and reticulations in Damaturu, Buni-Yadi, Nguru, Geidam, and Potiskum.

Agricultural and Livestock Development

The government will prioritize agricultural initiatives, including:

  • Procurement of modern agricultural equipment.
  • Development of Nasari, Gurjaje, and Bade-Gana livestock centers.
  • Construction of a modern abattoir in Damaturu.
  • Funding partnerships for projects such as the Livestock Productivity Resilience Support Project (L-PRESS) and Special Agro-industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ).

Commerce and Energy

Efforts to boost commerce and energy will include:

  • Completion of modern markets in Potiskum, Geidam, Yunusari, and Ngalda.
  • Construction of the Damaturu Mega Shopping Mall.
  • Expansion of the National Grid to more communities and installation of solar streetlights in 11 local government areas.

Transportation

The Yobe Line Mass Transport fleet will be expanded with additional buses, offering affordable transportation to the people.

Social Amenities and Partnerships

Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing essential social services and fostering a collaborative relationship between the executive and legislature.

“Our administration remains resolute in delivering social amenities and creating opportunities for economic growth, ensuring the well-being of all Yobeans,” the governor concluded.

With this ambitious budget, Yobe State is poised to consolidate economic progress and enhance the quality of life for its citizens.
