The Yobe State Government has launched another phase of its Agricultural Empowerment Programme, aimed at boosting food security and driving economic growth across the state. Under this initiative, multi-billion naira worth of agricultural equipment, improved seeds, and agro-chemicals are being distributed to farmers across the state.
Phase One: Zone A Farmers Benefit
The current phase of the distribution covers five local government areas (LGAs) in Zone A, comprising Yunusari, Geidam, Bursari, Tarmuwa, and Gulani. This initiative benefits 1,590 farmers in these areas, with plans to extend to Gujba and Damaturu shortly. The subsequent phases will roll out in Zones B and C to ensure all LGAs across Yobe State are covered.
Empowerment for Farmers
Farmers in Zone A have received essential tools and inputs, including:
- 159 hand ploughs and powered hand tillers
- 212 multi-purpose threshers
- 530 solar-powered pumps
- 3,180 bags of fertilizer
- 530 hand push planters
- 1,060 knapsack sprayers
- 10,600 kg of assorted seeds
- 10,600 liters of agro-chemicals
Female beneficiaries were also included, with 530 women receiving three small ruminants each, empowering them to engage in sustainable livestock farming.
Federal Government Support
The program’s ceremonial launch was performed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, further underscoring the federal government’s commitment to agricultural transformation in Yobe State.
Governor Buni’s Vision for Agriculture
Governor Mai Mala Buni emphasized the program’s focus on improving agricultural productivity, ensuring food sufficiency, and stimulating the local economy. Over 5,300 farmers across the state’s 178 wards in 17 LGAs will benefit from this initiative.
He also issued a stern warning against misuse of the distributed equipment, such as tractors and motorcycles intended for extension services. To prevent abuse, Governor Buni directed security agencies to impound any equipment being moved out of the state and arrest violators.
Farmers Commend the Initiative
Beneficiaries have praised the governor’s commitment to agricultural development, highlighting how the initiative supports their efforts to cultivate crops, enhance food security, and improve livelihoods.
A Promising Future for Yobe’s Agriculture
As Yobe State continues to prioritize agricultural development, Governor Buni’s initiative sets a new standard for empowering farmers. With tools, inputs, and federal backing, Yobe farmers are well-equipped to ensure a prosperous agricultural future, contributing to food security and economic resilience across the state.
