Food Security: President Tinubu Flags Off Buni’s Multi-billion Naira Agricultural Empowerment Programme

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, has officially launched Yobe State’s groundbreaking Agricultural Empowerment Programme, spearheaded by Governor Mai Mala Buni. The ceremony, held at the August 27th Stadium in Damaturu, marked a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to transform agriculture from subsistence to commercial and mechanized farming, ensuring food security for Nigeria.

A Vision for Agricultural Transformation

In his address, President Tinubu praised Governor Buni’s substantial investment in agriculture, including the distribution of thousands of farming implements, such as 100 tractors. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the federal government’s vision of prioritizing sufficient and nutritious food production across all levels of government.

“The Yobe State Agricultural Empowerment Programme couldn’t have come at a better time,” Tinubu stated. “Supporting and empowering farmers is essential for achieving our national goals. Providing tools, resources, and knowledge to optimize their production capacity is a step toward enhancing agricultural output and ensuring every Nigerian is well-fed and engaged in our nation’s economic drive.”

Empowering Farmers for Food Security and Economic Growth

The programme will benefit at least 5,340 farmers across Yobe State, equipping them to boost agricultural productivity and contribute to the state’s economic growth. Tinubu highlighted how such initiatives are pivotal in creating employment opportunities, especially for youths and women in rural communities.

“Every intervention in agriculture strengthens the local economy,” he noted. “These initiatives enhance food security and open new avenues for employment, especially for those who form the backbone of our rural communities.”

Resilience and Progress in Yobe State

The President commended the people of Yobe State for their resilience in reclaiming their livelihoods amid improved security conditions in the state and the northeast region. He urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the resources provided to transform their agricultural practices and contribute to the state’s development.

This ambitious agricultural empowerment programme underscores Yobe State’s commitment to creating a sustainable future for its people through innovation, collaboration, and targeted investments in key sectors. It stands as a model for other states to follow in harnessing the potential of agriculture to drive economic progress and ensure food security across Nigeria.
